IT’S HERE! Hornby Class 56s arrive

These pictures show the first two examples of Hornby’s all-new Class 56, which have just arrived in the Model Rail office for review. First impressions are extremely favourable – particularly with regard to the attention to detail evident between the Romanian-built BR blue 56013 and Doncaster-built Railfreight ‘red stripe’ 56049.

Highlights include;

N Batch specific details on Romanian and Doncaster-built locomotives, such as round or oval buffers, different cabside window, bufferbeam and headlight arrangements

N All-wheel drive and pick-up

N Two powered roof fans

N Directional LED lighting

N Opening cab doors

N Very fine, separately-fitted details and optional extra detailing parts

N Fine etched metal roof and bodyside grilles

N ‘DCC Ready’ and ‘DCC Fitted’ options

A full review of both models will be published in Christmas issue of Model Rail magazine, on sale from December 1 at the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition, being held at the NEC in Birmingham.

Shame...the buffer beam and red stripe on the railfreight model should be the same colour!

Thats typical of people. First comment and its negative. What about the fine detail evident elsewhere on the model?

The bogie detail looks nice all the pics in the magazines make the bogies look like the old style hornby ones but the pics on this site really show up the details, the body also looks superb why worry about the shade of red stripe and bufferbeam they should all be dirty anyway, 56's looked best under a layer of coal dust now lets have a reworked 73 please

' .. the class 56 is an excellent model with superb attention to detail - I want two - or three (when I can afford them all!)

Well Done Hornby and to the Model Rail press that keeps the leading manufacturers on their toes and who in turn supply us with great rail models.

Praise all round is in order.

When I first saw the pics in Model Rail, I thought I have to have one. The one that did it for me was "West Burton Power Station". probably because West Burton is only about 8 miles from me. I bought one from Hattons of Liverpool, & was immediatly impressed. The best detailed model I have seen as a RTR. Well done Hornby, & well done Model rail for the superb pics & revue.
